Personal Thoughts

To be a writer is one of the most glorious of missions. Words can make a big difference—either in our own life or in the lives of others.

The written word moves the mountain of ignorance, changes the landscape of the heart, and floods the desert of the soul. It brings refreshing tides of insight and hope and direction. That is why encouraging people to come out of the closet, so to speak, and write is so important to me.

I believe we are all given talents to be acknowledged and embraced without embarrassment or fear, to be sculpted and fine-tuned, and to be shared with the world. They are not to be hidden under a bushel basket, but to shed light where darkness formally was.

Although there is a negative side to the art of writing, where people are damaged by harsh sentiments and thoughtless commentaries, I choose to concentrate on what loving, thoughtful words can do. They heal, comfort, excite, teach, exhort, uplift, define, calm, build faith and trust, guide and reveal.

You writers know who you are! Whether it is a letter or invitation or e-mail or article or short story or novel—emerge from that closet and change the world. Write!
